Recently, scammers have become more active by developing a new scam scheme. They impersonate employees of marketplaces and courier services to trick people into revealing confidential information and money. This was reported by the "360" television channel.
Malefactors call Russians, pretending to be employees of well-known marketplaces or courier companies. They inform the victim that a paid order has been placed in their name, which needs to be collected. To do this, they ask the caller to specify a convenient time and verify their identity by providing a code from an SMS notification. These codes are then used by scammers to access the user's personal account on the marketplace or to confirm transactions with their bank account.
In addition, scammers call clients pretending to be support service representatives and report various issues related to payment, delivery, or order processing. To "assist" the client, the criminals persuade them to install remote management software, which gives the scammers full access to the device and the client's data.
Sometimes, victims are asked to click on a link that leads to a counterfeit website created to collect personal data. Malefactors may use various psychological techniques to persuade people to disclose codes or click on links. If refused, they threaten to block the user's marketplace account and destroy the parcel.
It was previously reported that scammers are deceiving applicants of NNSU by impersonating the admissions committee.
