Yuriy Shalabaev: We approach courtyard repairs comprehensively

      The head of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev, evaluated the progress of the repair campaign for adjacent territories, which will be comprehensively improved this year. The mayor visited yards on Zhukova Street, 16, and Gagarin Avenue, 200, in the Prioksky district. Work on these territories has already been completed. He was accompanied during the inspection by district head Mikhail Shatilov, City Duma deputy Vladimir Poddymnikov-Gordeev, and local residents.

      As the mayor recalled, this year in Nizhny Novgorod, 275 territories are being improved, which is 54 more than last year and nearly ten times more than 5-6 years ago. "Previously, work in yards was carried out separately by each owner, but now repairs are approached comprehensively. The work is being carried out jointly by all interested structures: district, DUK or TSK, city departments of transport and road management, housing, and engineering infrastructure. Despite tight deadlines and a large volume of work across the city, the landscaping of residential territories in Nizhny Novgorod is on schedule," noted Yuri Shalabaev.

      The city head stated that the comprehensive renovation includes road and sidewalk asphalting, curb installation, and creation of parking bays.

      "When houses were built, yards were definitely not designed to accommodate such a number of cars. Now, this leads residents to park on green areas and lawns. In autumn and spring, this results in dirt, and in winter, it causes problems with snow removal. As part of the comprehensive improvement, we are making parking areas in yards in agreement with residents to ensure comfort for both drivers and pedestrians," said Yuri Shalabaev, adding that responsible agencies monitor the progress and inform residents about it.

      According to Andrey Zhitnikov, director of the city’s Department of Transport and Road Management, two municipal driveways are being constructed by the department in the Prioksky district—on Gagarin Avenue, 180, and Arsenyev Street, 2. "On Gagarin, the work is 80% complete, with 2,034 square meters of road laid and curbs installed. On Arsenyev, the work is fully completed: 580 sq.m. of driveway asphalted and 247 sq.m. of sidewalk paved. Overall, 40 driveways are being built across the city. Work on all sites is planned to be finished by September," explained Andrey Zhitnikov.

      Prioksky district head Mikhail Shatilov said that 17 adjacent territories are being repaired this year in the district. "We are expanding roads in all yards. We make them comfortable for drivers so they can park calmly without disturbing pedestrians. Also, wide roads are convenient for mechanical snow removal in winter. All work will be completed on time," the district head emphasized.

      Local residents have already appreciated the recent repairs. Elena, a local resident, said that the yard has transformed greatly. "Finally, those pits, which caused discomfort, are gone. It was very inconvenient to walk, drive, and push strollers. But now everything is very clean, and everything was done very professionally."

      Neighbor Yulia also supported her. "The area has changed. It’s very comfortable to walk with a stroller and to park a car. Our yard is clean and orderly. Thanks to everyone for the work done. I want to say that now all yards are beautifully improved."

      City Duma deputy Vladimir Poddymnikov-Gordeev, who participated in the inspection, noted that one of the pressing issues residents of Prioksky address is yard repairs. "This yard on Zhukova Street, 16, is an excellent example where landscaping was done considering all residents' wishes: there is a parking lot, a large playground for children, and landscaping. Overall, this yard may become a standard for future public spaces in Prioksky district."

      Earlier, city head Yuri Shalabaev announced that nearly one billion rubles would be allocated for the repair of 275 territories in Nizhny Novgorod. This volume of work will be carried out for the first time.
