The "Communists of Russia" Society proposes introducing an additional tax for cafes and restaurants specializing in dishes from unfriendly countries. This was announced by Yaroslav Sidorov, the party's deputy chairman, in an interview with the "360" TV channel.
In the coming days, the initiative will be submitted to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The document is currently being finalized to align it with legislation.
It is supposed that the new tax will affect catering establishments such as pizzerias, sushi bars, burger joints, and similar businesses. According to expert Sidorov, Russians will not buy these dishes at inflated prices. Instead, the focus should be on increasing the number of restaurants offering traditional Russian dishes.
Sidorov emphasized that Russian cuisine is an integral part of the country's cultural heritage, and its products are natural for Russian consumers. At the same time, pizza and sushi are perceived as temporary fashion trends that quickly lose popularity.
It is important to note that the initiative does not apply to non-alcoholic beverages, such as Coca-Cola. It concerns exclusively dishes that may be subject to taxation.
