
The crime rate in the Nizhny Novgorod region has decreased.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region presented crime statistics for the first six months of 2025. The agency recorded an overall decrease in the number of registered offenses.
Thus, the total number of crimes decreased by 0.7% — from 17,368 to 17,239. The number of cases not requiring mandatory preliminary investigation decreased by 1.9% — from 6,738 to 6,607.
A significant decline is observed in the category of crimes against persons. They decreased by 6.3% — from 2,002 to 1,875. Specifically, the number of assault cases causing harm to health decreased: serious injuries — by 4.4% (from 136 to 130), moderate injuries — by 26.5% (from 219 to 161), minor injuries — by 14.6% (from 301 to 257). The number of assault cases halved — from 44 to 22.
Meanwhile, the region saw an increase in criminal cases related to bribery. Over half a year, 52 such cases were initiated, which is 68% more than the previous year. The average bribe amount decreased by 28% and amounted to 415,300 rubles.
An increase in the number of rapes was also noted — they became 2.1 times more (39 cases). The number of death threats also grew by 4.5%, reaching 279. The number of murders remained at last year's level.
Separately, the report indicated a sharp increase in terrorism-related crimes — from 2 to 16. The number of extremist acts also nearly tripled — from 5 to 14.
Additionally, 256 crimes against state authority, government service interests, and local self-government bodies were recorded. This is a 12.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024 (227 cases).
Nizhny Novgorod police officers continue working to ensure public safety in places of mass gatherings. As a result, the number of crimes committed in public spaces decreased by 3.9% — from 4,064 to 3,904.
