The Mstislav Rostropovich Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Philharmonic announced a new appointment: Ivan Nikiforchin has taken the position of chief guest conductor. He is the artistic director of the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra and also the founder and leader of the "Russian Music Academy" Symphony Chapel.
Maestro Nikiforchin is a laureate of the Russian President’s Award for Young Cultural Figures, having been recognized in 2024 for his contribution to the development of domestic musical culture.
Ivan Nikiforchin’s first performance in his new role will take place on July 20 — he will conduct the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra at the final concert of the IV "Music Over the Volga" Festival (0+). This was reported by the Nizhny Novgorod Region Ministry of Culture.
Olga Tomina, the artistic director and director of the philharmonic, emphasized that the ensemble always strives for development and is open to new names.
Ivan Nikiforchin received his academic education at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and later completed postgraduate studies at the same institution. His professional career includes achievements both as a performer and a conductor.
The artistic collaboration between the conductor and the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic began in January 2024. At that time, he performed for the first time on the stage of the Kremlin Palace of Congresses with the "Virtuosos of Moscow" chamber orchestra as part of his author’s subscription cycle. Since then, the maestro has repeatedly collaborated with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the region.
"For me, it is an incredibly joyful and bright event — to become the chief guest conductor of the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic Academic Symphony Orchestra. I am confident that we can expect unique programs, interesting discoveries, and broad horizons ahead," said Ivan Nikiforchin.
It was previously reported that the Nizhny Novgorod Provincial Orchestra performed a festive program in Cyprus.
