Gorkovskaya Mainline offers to choose a "popular" name for the new retro train.

      Gorky Railway Society announces the launch of a project to select a “people’s” name for the new steam retro train. The train, headed by steam locomotive 9P No. 18430, began running the route Nizhny Novgorod-Moskovsky – Nizhny Novgorod-Sortirovochny at the end of June.

      Initially, an announcement about the project’s launch will be posted and pinned in the official group of Gorky Railway on the social network "VKontakte." Under this post, users will suggest names for the retro train and briefly explain why it should receive that name. Everyone is welcome to participate.

      Following this, an expert committee will select five options for a final vote, which will take place on the "Pro GZhD" Telegram channel.

      The first stage starts on July 15 and will run until July 23, 2025. The final voting will be held from July 24 to 31. The results will be announced ahead of Railway Workers’ Day on August 1. The winner will receive commemorative prizes from Gorky Railway.

      Additionally, the steam locomotive 9P No. 18430 was built in 1951 by the Murom Dzerzhinsky Plant. For nearly three decades—from 1996 to 2024—it operated at the “Steam Locomotives of Russia” site, until mid-2023, when it was transferred to the depot for major repairs.

      With a maximum power of 320 hp, a top speed of 35 km/h, and weighing over 55 tons, these locomotives were essential for shunting operations on the main railway lines and industrial territories, performing a wide range of tasks. For example, they were used to supply gondola cars for pouring blast furnace cast iron.
