New COVID-19 strains threaten residents of Nizhny Novgorod

      They spread very quickly.

      The new coronavirus strains Nimbus and Stratus threaten residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the editor-in-chief of "Stationary Press," Alexei Nikonov.

      Both variants are of the "Omicron" type and are characterized by high transmission rates.

      The "Nimbus" strain is currently predominant in Asia, including Kazakhstan. In Russia, about 20 cases have been recorded. Although the disease generally manifests as mild with typical ARVI symptoms, complications such as chronic fatigue, weakness, and cognitive decline may occur after recovery.

      "Stratus," first identified in Canada in early 2025, has been detected in 60 cases in Russia. This strain causes typical cold symptoms—fever, runny nose, cough, and sore throat.

      

      The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) notes that the epidemiological situation remains stable due to the population's developed immunity against COVID-19.

      Earlier, residents of Nizhny Novgorod were informed about a new wave of COVID and influenza. Preparations for the seasonal illness period have begun.
