Hunting permits for bird game will be issued to residents of Nizhny Novgorod starting July 14.

      On July 13, 2025, at 14:14 [328], Society Starting from July 14, 2025, the issuance of permits for hunting feathered game with retrievers and falconry birds will commence in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Permits can be obtained at the regional Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection.

      Wetland and meadow game include, for example, teal, woodcock, snipe, and lapwing. Forest game includes capercaillie, black grouse, and hazel grouse. Field game is represented by quail, gray partridge, and pigeons. Waterfowl includes ducks, geese, and bitterns.

      Amateur and sport hunting of species listed in the Red Book of Russia and the Nizhny Novgorod region is prohibited. This includes, in particular, white grouse, crested tit, large godwit, black-tailed godwit, and other rare waders.

      The hunting season is established by game species:

      - for wetland and meadow game — from July 25 to November 30;

      - for forest game (except for woodcock) — from August 5 to February 28;

      - for field game and woodcock — from August 5 to November 30;

      - for waterfowl — from August 16 to November 30.

      

      The Ministry of Forests clarified that hunting with one retriever is permitted with no more than three hunters participating. Each must have a complete set of documents as required by legislation.

      The agency reminded that when fire hazard classes IV–V are declared, entry into forests is prohibited. An up-to-date map with restrictions can be found on the agency’s website.
