Nizhny Novgorod residents at "Gorky Fest" were the first in the country to see the series "Three Sisters."
At the "Gorky Fest" of new Russian cinema, Nizhny Novgorod residents were the first in the country to see the series "Three Sisters" – its premiere will soon be available on the KION online cinema platform. The film was presented to viewers by director Marusya Trubnikova, actresses Marusya Klimova and Polina Guhman, who played two of the three sisters, and KION's creative director Ilya Burets.
Filming for the series took place a year ago in Nizhny Novgorod. The camera captured the most beautiful views of the city, filmed from a bird’s-eye perspective – the Fedorovsky Embankment, Nizhnevolzhskaya Embankment, the Kremlin, the Spit, Switzerland Park – bathed in sunlight and mesmerizing viewers.
Director Marusya Trubnikova shared that the only inspiration from the famous Chekhov play in the film is the message: three sisters – Ira, Olya, and Masha – dream of moving to Moscow from Nizhny Novgorod. Their plans change when their mother – a jewelry business owner who returns from vacation with her young lover – influences the situation. This colorful couple was played by Larisa Guseva and Pavel Derevyanko, while the third sister, Yulia Aleksandrova, completes the trio. Now the three sisters are trying to steer the situation back to normal. The series is full of humor, amusing situations, and excellent acting performances. The director and actresses shared their impressions of working on the series.
For Marusya Trubnikova, this series is her first directing experience, and she admitted that the only reference to Chekhov in the series is the idea: "To Moscow!". "This is my debut as a director, although I have done a lot as a creative producer and screenwriter. I have great respect for Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. I think we tried to preserve the irony that is inherent in him. I was very lucky with the team—things were very easy for me. Sometimes I felt like I was being carried on their hands! We still treat each other very tenderly, which is rare after major projects," shared the director.
Our series is a daring comedy about love.

She noted that Nizhny Novgorod struck her with its beauty and became the perfect filming location. "It’s an incredible city. Large, cozy, with water. It’s very beautiful here, and we tried to shoot in all the picturesque locations. You will see that we filmed nearly everything beautiful in Nizhny," assured Marusya Trubnikova, adding that since the idea of the series appeared, she envisioned Larisa Guseva as the main character. Finding an actor for her lover was challenging, ultimately resulting in Pavel Derevyanko being cast. "Pavel is our good friend. He has acted in many of our projects, and he and Larisa Andreevna really look great together. There’s some chemistry between them," she believes.
The main actresses agree completely, with wonderful impressions of both filming and Nizhny Novgorod.
— "I played the middle sister, Olya, and I want to thank your city; it’s wonderful. I got to know it through this project. Watching this series, which I haven’t seen myself yet, is a very personal event because it was here, in Nizhny Novgorod, that I learned I was pregnant. This project captured me during that time — I had a baby, and the project was like a baby itself. I really hope you will like it because it’s a series about love, and we tried very hard to make it sincere, from the bottom of our hearts," shared Marusya Klimova.

Polina Guhman played the youngest sister, Masha, and admitted that the director gave her complete creative freedom in this role.
— "My character definitely has my personality, and of course, my appearance!" shared Polina. The creative director of the KION online cinema, Ilya Burets, said he is satisfied with the result and confident that viewers will be pleased. "In addition to the cast, it’s also an incredible story. The series has everything to appeal to viewers. Its premiere will be soon on the KION online platform from the MTS ecosystem, and later the series will be broadcast on the TNT channel," he explained.
At the festival, viewers saw only the first two episodes of the series, enjoyed the views of the native city, and genuinely laughed at the jokes and amusing moments of the plot. Undoubtedly, everyone who attended the screening — the drama theater hall where it was held was fully booked — will definitely watch the series in its entirety.
