Culture and Leisure NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" – Anastasia Nazarova At the "Gorky fest" (18+) film festival in Nizhny Novgorod, the premiere of the series "Three Sisters" (16+), directed by Marusya Trubnikova, took place. Before the screening of the first two episodes of the new project from MTS's online cinema KION and the Mediaslovo production company, the creators of the series spoke with journalists. Details are in the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" article. The shooting of the comedic melodrama starring Larisa Guzeeva and Pavel Derevyanko took place in the summer of 2024 specifically in Nizhny Novgorod. As Marusya Trubnikova admitted, the choice of this city was due to its unique cinematic quality. "We tried to shoot in nearly all beautiful locations. You'll see them in the series," noted the director. In the first episodes of "Three Sisters," viewers will see picturesque views of the Spit and Fedorovsky Embankment, as well as Kozhevnya Street, Kanavinsky Bridge, the "Switzerland" park, and even the airport. For actress Marusya Klimova, who played the middle sister, Nizhny Novgorod became not just a shooting location but a city connected to an important personal event. It was here, last summer, that she learned of her pregnancy. "The project 'Three Sisters' captured me in an interesting state. The baby is born. And the project was born too. Today, it will see the light! I really want it to appeal to viewers because it's about love," shared the actress. Klimova also confessed that she fell in love with the famous Nizhny Novgorod sunsets. According to her, only for them, it's worth coming to this city. Besides Guzeeva and Derevyanko, the series also features Yulia Alexandrova (the eldest sister), Polina Guhman (the youngest), Zhanna Epple, Pavel Popov, and others. One of the first to join the project was Larisa Guzeeva—she was offered the role of the mother. After her agreement, the creators began assembling the cast. Her partner, the mother’s boyfriend, was played by Pavel Derevyanko. "We thought Larisa Andreyevna and Pavel looked great together. Chemistry happened between them," said Marusya Trubnikova. "I was told about this idea, and I decided it was worth developing. By the way, Pavel Volya also starred with Alexander. It turned out to be a great duo," the director said. Notably, "Three Sisters" is Marusya Trubnikova’s directorial debut. Previously, she worked as a screenwriter and producer on projects like "The Bitches" (18+), "Topy" (18+), "Unprincipled" (18+). "I was incredibly lucky with the team," she admitted. The title of the series alludes to Chekhov’s play of the same name. Journalists naturally asked how deep this connection is and whether the creators offended the classic. According to Trubnikova, the series preserves Chekhovian irony and a general approach to the story, but there’s no direct borrowing. For example, Marusya Klimova’s character—Olga—is the middle sister, not the eldest as in Chekhov’s story. When asked what is common between the actresses and their characters, Marusya Klimova quickly replied: "Love." 19-year-old Polina Guhman first said with a smile—"appearance," then added: "Well, and personality, probably." The director nodded in agreement. The premiere in Nizhny was also attended by KION’s creative director Ilya Burets. He reminded that all projects created jointly with Mediaslovo are, in one way or another, about love. "Three Sisters" was no exception. "Fundamentally, this story is about love. It always prevails! We are confident that 'Three Sisters' is a major audience project, and many people will watch it," he concluded. The series premiere on KION’s online platform will take place on August 1, followed by its showing on TNT.
