      Society In the Nizhny Novgorod Region, police officers drew up 6,858 violation protocols related to migration legislation in the first half of 2025. This was reported by Andrey Knaus, head of the regional migration department, during a meeting with Yury Arsentiev, the head of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs. Knaus stated that over 40,000 foreign citizens are registered in the migration database of the region, accounting for about 1.33% of the total population. He added that in half a year, 581 individuals obtained Russian citizenship, and the number of work permits issued for employment exceeded 22,000. To monitor the migration situation, preventive measures such as "Migrant," "Foreign Specialist," "Labor Migrant," and "Illegal" are regularly conducted. During these operations in the first half of the year, police carried out 4,376 checks on foreigners' compliance with stay and work regulations. The inspections covered 3,032 residence addresses, 415 construction sites, 206 retail outlets, 50 industrial enterprises, 59 agricultural organizations, 32 service facilities, and 614 other objects. As a result, 4,431 foreign nationals, 811 employers, 65 officials and individual entrepreneurs, and 404 legal entities were held accountable. Administrative decisions for deportation from Russia were made against 524 foreigners who violated migration rules. Currently, 502 individuals have already been deported by bailiffs. It was previously reported that in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the ban on migrant work under patents in sectors such as public catering, water supply, wastewater management, waste collection and disposal, pollution control, storage services, transportation-related auxiliary services, and the hotel business was lifted. This ban was introduced in March 2025. It was also announced that migrants who do not submit biometric data would face disconnection of mobile communication within the region.
