      VTB has compiled a ranking of cities where residents choose books more often than other forms of cultural leisure and entertainment. The ranking is based on transactional analytics of big data conducted by the bank's GeoAI team using data from VTB's Geoplatform.

      In compiling the ranking, anonymized spending by VTB cardholders for the year 2025 in million-plus cities was analyzed. The analysis considered purchases in the categories of "books," "theaters," "cinema," "excursions," and "museums." The study was conducted as part of the Moscow International Book Fair (MIBF), in which VTB is a participant.

      Voronezh topped the ranking, with book purchases accounting for 34% of all "cultural" spending. Samara came in second (30%), followed by Rostov-on-Don (29%). The top five is rounded out by Krasnodar (28%) and Ufa (26%). VTB also compared cities based on the average receipt in the book category. The highest figure was recorded in Moscow — 690 rubles per purchase, with Rostov-on-Don close behind at 527 rubles. Following are Krasnodar — 510 rubles, Samara — 502 rubles, and Nizhny Novgorod — 485 rubles.

      The "youngest" reading city among million-plus cities in the country is Volgograd, with the average age of book buyers here being 41.6 years. Next are Rostov-on-Don (41.9 years), Krasnodar (42.7 years), Kazan (43.1 years), and Krasnoyarsk (43.3 years).
