      September 3, 2026 10:52 Incidents The Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court upheld the decision to pay 1.5 million rubles in compensation for moral damages for the death of a pedestrian who was hit by an electric scooter. As reported by the court's press service, the appeal in this case was considered on September 1. No grounds were found to change the decision of the Moscow District Court of Nizhny Novgorod. According to the case materials, on the afternoon of July 16, 2024, the defendant was riding an electric scooter on Berezovskaya Street and collided with a pedestrian. The woman was taken to the hospital, but she died without regaining consciousness. An examination established that the injury sustained as a result of the collision was the direct cause of death. The husband of the deceased requested 2 million rubles from the defendant as compensation for moral damages. The district court, taking into account the degree of moral suffering of the plaintiff, his age, the duration of the marriage, and the circumstances of the incident, reduced the amount to 1.5 million rubles. The regional court agreed with this conclusion. In addition, the judicial panel recognized the electric scooter as a source of increased danger, based on its technical characteristics. The court found no grounds for exempting the defendant from liability or further reducing the compensation. As a result, the decision to collect 1.5 million rubles was left unchanged, and the appeal was denied. The ruling came into legal force on the day it was made.
