Nizhny Novgorod became the second in the implementation of the national project "Infrastructure for Life."

      August 31, 2026 18:04 Economy Nizhny Novgorod took second place among the largest cities in Russia for the implementation of the national project "Infrastructure for Life." The Volodarsky district also ranked among the best, taking seventh place in its category. The results were presented at the II Development Forum "Cities of the Future" in Perm. Experts from the Ministry of Construction of Russia assessed how cities worked on improving the quality of the environment in key populated areas in 2025. In the category of cities with a population of over 1 million, Nizhny Novgorod was second only to Moscow. Saint Petersburg took third place, and Perm and Volgograd also made it into the top five. The Volodarsky district entered the top ten among municipalities with a population of 50,000 to 100,000, ranking seventh. Key populated areas include district centers and cities that have strategic importance and significantly influence the economic development of the region. The Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Sergey Morozov, emphasized that the development of such territories is one of the key areas of work for the region. Over the past year, 105 improved public spaces were created in the region, and more than 400 courtyards were put in order. The volume of road repair work exceeded planned indicators: 761 km were repaired against a planned 626 km. In Nizhny Novgorod, the renewal of public transport continues. The city received 170 new trams, formed the second-largest electric bus fleet in Russia, and is updating the infrastructure for them. The construction of the metro is also ongoing, and the construction of a cable car across the Oka River has begun. As part of the national project, in 2025, the main avenues of Lenin and Gagarin were repaired in the regional center, five public spaces with a total area of 13 hectares were improved, and 145 km of communications were replaced. The national project "Infrastructure for Life" was initiated by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. It aims to develop road and utility infrastructure, public transport, and improve road safety. One of the project's tasks is to improve the quality of life in key populated areas. By 2030, the indicator should increase by 30%, and by 2036, by 60%.
