More than 500 guests attended the first popular science festival of evidence-based medicine "Dokmed." The festival took place as part of the project "Scientific Nizhny: Evidence-Based Medicine" by the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Public Organization Center for Cultural and Scientific Communication "Krugozor," which became one of the winners of the city competition for social projects "Open Nizhny" in 2026. This was reported by the Department of Social Communications and Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Administration. From August 24 to 28, lectures by doctors of various specialties on evidence-based medicine were held at different venues in the city, a concert at the Apothecary Evenius House, a simulation game "Pharm-Monopoly: From Test Tube to Market," excursions to laboratories, research institutes, and the University Clinic of NNSU, as well as interactive workshops for children where they could learn first aid skills and even try their hand at plastic surgery. The festival concluded with a lecture by the well-known science journalist Alexey Vodovozov, who clearly explained how to distinguish a quality medical study from "scientifically dressed nonsense." "500 people is not just a number; it is an indicator of public demand. People want to understand how their body and modern science work. We aimed not just to teach but to give people a tool for critical thinking. And judging by the lively interest with which festival guests asked questions after the lectures and excursions, we succeeded. Our festival became a bridge between the academic environment and the urban community, and we will definitely continue this tradition," noted Maria Petrova, chairwoman of the NROO CKINK "Krugozor."
The project will continue in an online format with a series of useful popular science materials and video recordings on evidence-based medicine. Let us remind you that 15 projects became winners of the city competition for social projects "Open Nizhny." A total of 33 organizations participated in the competition in 2026.
