Trichologist Varenova debunked the myth that hair loss is caused by soda.
On August 30, 2026, at 16:03 Society Trichologist Tatyana Varenova refuted the widespread claim that sweet soda directly leads to hair loss. This was reported by healthcare expert Alexey Nikонов on his MAX channel. According to the specialist, there is insufficient physiological basis for the idea of mass alopecia due to lemonades. Varenova explained that if sweet carbonated drinks were indeed one of the main causes of hair loss, people would have been facing this problem en masse since their teenage years. At the same time, the doctor did not rule out that an excess of fast carbohydrates could indirectly worsen the condition of the scalp. She noted that sugar and glycation processes can support mild inflammation in the area of hair follicles. However, according to her, this is more of an additional factor that exacerbates existing disorders—such as those related to hormonal pathology or genetic predisposition. As Varenova emphasized, the only scalp issue that can truly be directly linked to dietary mistakes and the consumption of sweets is seborrheic dermatitis. Its manifestations may intensify against the backdrop of sweet carbonated drinks. Previously, cosmetologist and trichologist Mariyat Mukhina expressed a different viewpoint. She stated that regular consumption of sweet carbonated drinks containing sugar and chemical additives can negatively affect the health of hair and the scalp.
