A 20-year-old guy was detained for a terrorist attack in Dzerzhinsk.

      On August 31, 2026, at 10:11, Incidents: The Dzerzhinsk City Court has placed a young man in custody, who is suspected of committing a terrorist act. This was reported by the press service of the regional court. According to the investigation, on August 26, the young man, after a phone call with an unidentified person, bought a flammable liquid and a lighter. He then doused a car with the liquid and set it on fire near the building of Police Department No. 1 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Dzerzhinsk.

      As clarified by the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the incident was noticed by a duty officer through surveillance cameras. Police officers rushed out of the building of the internal affairs body—one of them extinguished the car, while the other chased after the perpetrator. The suspect was detained on a neighboring street and taken to the police station. He turned out to be a 20-year-old local resident with no prior convictions, working in a retail store.

      A criminal case has been initiated under paragraph "a" of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation—terrorist act, that is, arson aimed at destabilizing the activities of government authorities, committed by a group of individuals by prior agreement. The accused believed he was acting on the instructions of an FSB officer and participating in a special operation to detain criminals. He has been remanded in custody until October 25 inclusive. The ruling has not yet entered into legal force.
