Vandals vandalized about 50 graves at the cemetery in Vyksa.
On August 12, 2026, at 11:40, Incidents: At one of the cemeteries in Vyksa, unknown individuals damaged about 50 graves. As local residents told in the program "By the Way..." (16+), some monuments were torn from their pedestals, others were broken, and crosses were pulled out and thrown away. Relatives reported that usually vandals destroy everything indiscriminately; however, this time, according to their observations, the damage appeared to be selective. People even speculated that the destruction might have been carried out based on some criteria—such as the letters on the monuments or the location of the graves in a specific square. Furthermore, they noted that to tear a monument from its pedestal or to break a granite slab, not only physical strength but also tools might have been needed, which led to the version among the townspeople that what happened could have been organized rather than spontaneous. A local resident said that this likely occurred on the evening of Sunday, August 2. On Monday, people began to gather at the cemetery after learning about the incident from social media.
"There were as many people here as on Easter. Monuments were broken; one woman was crying. People were very upset: first of all, it's already a grief to lose loved ones, and then there's such a cruel violation. Moreover, not everyone will be able to restore everything now—it’s very expensive. Maybe people saved for years to put a worthy monument for their relative, and then—bam, and everything is broken," she said.
Currently, law enforcement is conducting an investigation into the new act of vandalism. The identities of those involved have not yet been established. Recall that a similar incident occurred at another cemetery in the Vyksa district in June. At that time, several gravestones were broken, and the culprits turned out to be children aged nine to ten. They were found and handed over to their parents, against whom administrative cases were initiated. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
