Evgeny Lyulin: "The Reverend Macarius of Yellow Waters created Holy Russia through his deeds."
August 7, 2026 17:10 Society "Today, my native Lyskovskaya land welcomes thousands of pilgrims who are traveling to the Holy Trinity Makaryevsky Zheltovodsky Monastery. It has long become a symbol of our region, known throughout Russia and far beyond its borders. However, not everyone knows that the celebrations in honor of Saint Macarius are of equal significance to the feast in honor of Seraphim of Sarov in Diveevo," wrote the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Evgeny Lyulin, on his MAX channel. "Venerable Macarius is one of those holy servants who created Holy Russia with their deeds! The entire Volga from Kostroma to Kazan stands as a monument to his spiritual feats! He founded monasteries. Pagans came to him to be baptized. According to legend, the Tatar khan Ulu-Makhmet burned the first monastery on the Yellow Lake, but he did not harm monk Macarius: he conversed with him, was struck by the wisdom of the holy righteous man, and let him go in peace," noted Evgeny Lyulin. "Today, Metropolitan Georgy is serving the Divine Liturgy in the Trinity Cathedral of the Makaryevsky Monastery. A procession with the ark, which holds the honorable head of Saint Macarius, has taken place around the ancient walls of the monastery. People travel from all over the country to venerate this shrine. The sisters of the monastery say that couples who have lost hope of having children receive special help. There have been many recorded cases where, after praying to the saint, they later gave birth to firstborn sons. As a native of Lyskov, I can confirm that the very walls of the Makaryevsky Monastery heal the body and soul. Over six centuries, they have been destroyed several times by enemies, and each time the monastery was reborn and flourished. A holy, prayerful place! True, native Russia, which we love and are proud of," emphasized the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
