The first support of the cable car over the Oka River in Nizhny Novgorod has been installed.

      August 5, 2026 10:51 Society The construction of the cable car across the Oka River in Nizhny Novgorod continues to gain momentum. The first support has been installed on Zarechny Boulevard, near the future "Zarechnaya" station. This was reported by UrbanTech Cable Cars JSC. The height of the structure is 18 meters. It is a tubular-type support: its diameter at the base is 1.8 meters, and at the top, it is 1 meter. It was designed with consideration for the surrounding urban development. Before installation, the builders carried out a large volume of preparatory work. They relocated engineering communications, arranged pile foundations, delivered metal structures, and assembled them. Only after that was the support itself installed using heavy machinery. Currently, pile work is approximately 90% complete at all sites where supports will be located. At the same time, specialists continue to assemble the other structures that will be installed as they become ready. A total of 15 supports made of high-strength steel will be installed along the route of the new cable car. Then, roller balance weights will be installed on them, and a non-load-bearing cable will be stretched along which the cabins will move. The route will run from Zarechny Boulevard to the "Switzerland" park. Three stations are planned along the line - "Zarechnaya," "Quiet Harbor," and "Gagarin Avenue." According to the Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Sergey Morozov, about 100,000 people currently live near the future cable car. By 2033, more than 700,000 square meters of housing is planned to be introduced in the area accessible from both sides of the Oka. The new line, he noted, should provide transportation in advance for both current residents and those who will settle in new neighborhoods. Work is also underway at another construction site. Near the Oceanis shopping center, where the "Gagarin Avenue" station will appear, the foundation is currently being laid. A tower crane is also involved in the project. It is worth noting that the construction of the cable car began in August 2025. The main work is planned to be completed by the end of 2026, and the movement is expected to open in 2027. The cost of the project is estimated at 5.2 billion rubles.
