Retail investors shifted to strategic accumulation of stocks in the second quarter of 2026.

August 4, 2026 14:34 EconomyVTB Clients My Investments in the second quarter of 2026 changed their behavior model in the stock market: despite the seasonal decline in overall trading turnover, the volume of net purchases increased almost sixfold compared to the first quarter. VTB broker analysts attribute this to investors shifting from speculative operations to long-term accumulation of positions in quality securities.

The key trend of the second quarter is the concentration of demand for "blue chips." More than 60% of the total volume of purchases minus sales among the top 10 most popular securities was accounted for by the top three - LUKOIL, Gazprom, and Sberbank. Investors prefer companies with stable businesses and dividend potential.

Andrey Yatskov, head of the brokerage services department at VTB Bank, notes: "The shift in behavior from active speculative trading to accumulation usually occurs at a stage when investors believe in the medium-term potential of the market more than in short-term fluctuations. At the same time, the concentration of purchases in 'blue chips' is a signal of a possible reassessment of priorities, where quality and dividend yield are more important than volatile ideas."
