On the first Sunday of August, Russia celebrates Railway Workers' Day — a holiday with a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century, during the active railway construction in the Russian Empire. For the Nizhny Novgorod region, the railway has always held special significance.
By the 1860s, Nizhny Novgorod was connected to Moscow by railway, and later the construction of new branches began, including the Nizhny Novgorod — Kotel'nich route.
Even during the years of the revolution, the Civil War, and the Great Patriotic War, railway workers continued to work under the most difficult conditions, ensuring uninterrupted movement and making a significant contribution to the country's development and victory in the war.
