      In the Soviet district of Nizhny Novgorod, a 44-year-old programmer became a victim of telephone scammers, reported the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      The incident occurred at the end of June. Over several hours, the victim received calls from unknown individuals who introduced themselves as employees of the military enlistment office, and then as law enforcement officers. Under the pretext of declaring money, the fraudsters misled the programmer and demanded that he hand over cash to a courier.

      Following the instructions of the fake employees, the man prepared 8,150 US dollars (equivalent to 630,000 rubles), packed it in a black folder, and handed it over to a stranger on the landing of his own home, who introduced himself as an authorized person. After handing over the money, communication with the "employees" was cut off, and the Nizhny Novgorod resident realized that he had fallen victim to a scam.
