Minister Roman Vorobyov reported on the state and prospects for the development of the hunting economy in the region during the Government Hour at the meeting of the regional Legislative Assembly.

      The hunting grounds of the Nizhny Novgorod region exceed 7 million hectares, and 132 designated hunting farms have been established in this area. The basis for territorial hunting management is the scheme for the placement, use, and protection of hunting grounds, approved by the Governor's decree and valid until 2030. An update is planned soon, taking into account current data on the state of hunting resources and their habitats, which will enhance the effectiveness of industry management. There is a positive trend in the population of wild animals: according to state monitoring, most hunting species maintain stable populations, and for several species, an increase has been recorded – over five years, the moose population has increased by 29%, roe deer by almost 60%, and bears by 6.7%. The wild boar population has been reduced by 88% as part of measures to combat African swine fever and now complies with federal recommendations.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, systematic work is being carried out to maintain a stable animal population. We are preventing illegal hunting while simultaneously implementing a set of biotechnical measures to restore and preserve fauna. The results of state monitoring clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach – from regulating hunting practices to protecting habitats and combating poaching. Monitoring the dynamics of hunting species populations is a crucial element of the strategy for preserving the region's natural diversity. This work reliably ensures the long-term development of the hunting economy in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      Thanks to the support of the regional Government and the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the material and technical base of state hunting inspectors has significantly strengthened. Inspectors now have at their disposal 94 vehicles and 26 trailers, 57 snowmobiles, 30 small vessels and 12 trailers for them, 6 thermal imagers, and 15 upgraded "Shot" devices.

      During the report, the practice of issuing permits for hunting resources was discussed – the ministry issues more than 12,000 such documents annually. The distribution of permits for specific species is conducted through the "Digital Forest" system by lottery. Over five years, the number of participants in this procedure has grown. Overall, tax revenues from the hunting economy have increased by 1.8 times, confirming the growing economic significance of the industry.

      Thus, comprehensive work from improving territorial hunting management and monitoring populations to strengthening the material and technical base and preventing violations allows for the preservation of biological diversity in the region and ensures the sustainable development of the hunting economy.
