Heroes of Russia will be able to receive land for individual housing construction for free in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On July 31, 2026, at 12:44 PM, Society. Deputies of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Duma adopted a law that expands the opportunities for the free provision of land plots to Heroes of the Soviet Union, Heroes of the Russian Federation, and full holders of the Order of Glory. Now they will be able to receive a plot not only for personal subsidiary farming but also for individual housing construction. The changes bring regional legislation in line with federal norms. A simplified procedure for land allocation is provided for this category of citizens. Heroes will be able to independently choose the locality where they want to receive a plot and apply for its formation without participating in a lottery. The minimum plot size will be 20 hundredths within urban settlements and 40 hundredths in rural areas and on lands of other categories. The changes also affected outstanding athletes. For champions and prize-winners of the Olympic, Paralympic, and Deaflympic Games who were born or permanently reside in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the maximum size of the free plot for individual housing construction has been increased from 15 to 30 hundredths. According to the Deputy Chairman of the ZSNO, Alexey Antonov, the new measures will provide additional support for the Heroes of Russia, and the increase in the area of plots for athletes is a recognition of their merits to the state and the region, as well as an incentive for further development of the region's sports potential.
