Rosprirodnadzor has again found violations at the Nizhny Novgorod aeration station.

      On July 20, 2026, at 11:05, the Society reported that Rosprirodnadzor completed an unscheduled inspection of JSC "OKO," during which the implementation of previously issued orders to eliminate environmental violations at the urban wastewater treatment facilities of the Nizhny Novgorod aeration station was assessed.

      According to the press service of the administration for the Nizhny Novgorod region and Mari El, previous inspections of the facility, at the request of the Volga Interregional Environmental Prosecutor's Office, were conducted in August and October 2025. At that time, inspectors identified numerous violations of environmental legislation, the enterprise was held administratively liable, and orders were issued for their elimination.

      The latest inspection showed that the requirements of Rosprirodnadzor were not fully met. According to the agency, inspectors recorded 12 unresolved violations.

      In particular, the wastewater treatment facilities of the NSA continue to operate inefficiently. Samples of wastewater showed exceedances of the permissible discharge standards for manganese, copper, and petroleum products, as well as exceedances of the maximum allowable concentration of anionic synthetic surfactants (ASS). According to Rosprirodnadzor, the discharges from the enterprise continue to have a negative impact on the Volga River.

      In the field of air quality protection, one of the emission sources showed exceedances of the maximum allowable emissions standard for hydrogen sulfide by 9.5 times. Furthermore, a number of sources still lack maximum allowable emissions standards for methyl mercaptan, phenol, formaldehyde, hydrogen sulfide, and ammonia. The report submitted by the enterprise on the inventory of sources of harmful substance emissions into the atmosphere was deemed unreliable by the agency.

      The inspection also revealed violations in waste management. According to Rosprirodnadzor, the enterprise did not ensure safe conditions for the temporary accumulation of waste. Waste, visually identical to garbage from protective grates of household and mixed sewage, was again found at several unprepared sites. Additionally, JSC "OKO," as noted by the agency, continues to dispose of waste of IV hazard class (sludge on sludge fields) for more than 11 months without the required license. Moreover, the sludge fields themselves are not included in the State Register of Waste Disposal Facilities.

      Rosprirodnadzor also reported that the enterprise has still not fully paid the fee for negative environmental impact for the results of 2024. The collection of the debt is being carried out through the courts.

      Furthermore, agency specialists are calculating the extent of the damage caused to environmental components as a result of the aeration station's activities. Following the inspection, a new order was issued to JSC "OKO" for the mandatory elimination of all identified violations.

      Earlier, JSC "OKO" reported that the Nizhny Novgorod aeration station had improved the quality of wastewater treatment.
