The updated Secret Garden will open in Nizhny Novgorod's "Protected Quarters."

      On July 15, 2026, at 19:02, Culture and Leisure: The Secret Garden on Slavyanskaya Street, 3, will open after renovations on July 18 in the quarter of the Church of the Three Saints. A few years ago, this place was an abandoned courtyard, and now it has transformed into a cozy estate garden with aromatic herbs, new paths, and a small event area dedicated to the traditions of estate life in Nizhny Novgorod at the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. According to the director of the ANO "ASIRIS," Ekaterina Kryunas, the space was created as a place to learn about estate traditions. Meetings are planned here, where people can make jam together and talk about how city dwellers lived more than a hundred years ago. On the opening day, visitors will be able to see how cherries are harvested and, together with a historical culinary expert, prepare jam using old recipes.

      As project leader Nina Ershova shared, there were no regular gardens and greenhouses on the outskirts of Nizhny Novgorod before. Instead, there were free gardens and small flower beds where residents grew plants, gathered berries, and fruits. Throughout the day, tea parties with a samovar will be held in the Secret Garden. A gastronomic program titled "The History of the Picnic," dedicated to the traditions of country lunches and tea parties of the 19th century, is scheduled for the day. Pre-registration is required to participate. Games popular among city dwellers more than a hundred years ago, such as croquet, serso, and others, will also take place in the garden. Entrance to the Secret Garden and all events, except for the "History of the Picnic" program, will be free with prior registration. After the opening, the space will operate from Thursday to Sunday from 12:00 to 20:00.
