The parents of the deceased Nizhny Novgorod resident in the special military operation were deceived out of 12 million rubles.

On July 14, 2026, at 10:49, incidents occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod region where pensioners became victims of fraud, losing more than 12 million rubles. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. One of the couriers involved in the crime has already been identified by the police.

According to the press service of the police department, a 67-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod contacted the MO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia "Pilninsky." The man reported that unknown individuals convinced him and his wife to hand over large sums of money under various pretexts.

Initially, the pensioner received a call from a man claiming to be an employee of the military enlistment office. He informed him that he needed to come to the regional military enlistment office to receive an award for his deceased son, who was a participant in the special military operation (SMO). Then, people who introduced themselves as FSB employees and a lawyer contacted the victim. They convinced the couple that their savings were at risk of theft and also asked for assistance in identifying the criminals.

Under the influence of the fraudsters, the pensioners withdrew money from their bank accounts several times and handed it over to unknown individuals supposedly for conducting an "expert examination." Couriers collected the money in Nizhny Novgorod and the Pilninsky municipal district.

After some time, the couple realized they had become victims of fraud and contacted the police. The total amount of damage caused was 12,051,500 rubles.

An investigator from the investigative department of the MO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia "Pilninsky" opened a criminal case under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud committed on a particularly large scale").

During operational-search activities, officers of the criminal investigation department of the MO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia "Pilninsky," together with colleagues from the UUR of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region, identified one of the couriers involved in the crime.

Earlier, we reported that fraudsters were offering Nizhny Novgorod teenagers 80 rubles for photos of the graves of SMO fighters. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
