The Nizhny Novgorod woman lost more than 2.2 million rubles due to the password "Steven Durinda."

      On July 12, 2026, at 09:09, Incidents: A 57-year-old resident of the Avtozavodsky district of Nizhny Novgorod became a victim of telephone scammers and lost 2 million 273 thousand rubles. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident under the article on fraud.

      According to the police, since mid-April 2026, the woman received calls from unknown individuals claiming to be employees of Rosfinmonitoring, and then law enforcement agencies. They convinced the Nizhny Novgorod resident that her savings were under threat and that unknown individuals were trying to steal them, after which they provided instructions for "saving" the money for two and a half months.

      In early May, the victim handed over 1.2 million rubles to an unknown man in a park on Plotnikova Street, hiding the money in a bag. During the meeting, she provided the password "Steven Durinda." A month later, the woman transferred another 700 thousand rubles to a courier near her home on Politboytsov Street, again using the same password. For this, she took out a loan. At the end of June, the Nizhny Novgorod resident also transferred another 373 thousand rubles through an ATM in one of the shopping centers on Plotnikova Street to the accounts specified by the scammers.

      The total damage amounted to 2 million 273 thousand rubles. A criminal case has been initiated at Police Department No. 1 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). Currently, police officers are identifying the individuals involved in the crime and all the circumstances of the incident.
