Nizhny Novgorod residents were warned against buying hearing aids online.
On July 11, 2026, at 10:55 AM, residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region were warned about the risks associated with purchasing hearing aids on marketplaces. Recommendations from ENT doctor and audiologist Andrey Gribov were published in the Max channel by the editor-in-chief of the medical publication "Statsionar-Press," Alexey Nikонов.
According to the doctor, ordinary household sound amplifiers are often sold online under the guise of medical devices. Such devices do not take into account the individual characteristics of the ear canal and the distance to the eardrum, thus amplifying frequencies chaotically.
As a result, a person receives not help, but additional problems. The doctor noted that uncontrolled use of such gadgets can lead to acoustic injuries and further irreversible hearing deterioration. Patients often begin to hear extraneous noises, but speech remains indistinct.
Andrey Gribov noted that every third Nizhny Novgorod resident with hearing impairments first orders a cheap device online, exacerbates the condition, and only after that goes to the doctor.
The audiologist also reminded that in some countries, the online sale of hearing aids is prohibited by law precisely due to the potential harm to health.
"Safe selection of a hearing aid is only possible in person; it takes up to two hours as it requires manual calibration of settings to fit a specific audiogram and the anatomical features of the ear canal," he emphasized.
It was previously reported that starting October 1, dentists will be required to use anesthesia during painful procedures. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
