      By the end of 2025, the share of Nizhny Novgorod residents actively engaged in physical culture and sports reached 63.4%. The Ministry of Sports of the Nizhny Novgorod region informed the correspondent of the website pravda-nn.ru about the development of mass sports in the region. Almost two-thirds of Nizhny Novgorod residents systematically engage in physical culture and sports as of the end of 2025. This figure exceeds the plan set by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation even for 2026. To involve residents of all ages in sports, more than 1,300 official sports events are held annually—both professional and mass physical culture events. Nearly 20 categories of residents, including participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO) and their family members, are granted free access to state and municipal sports facilities. Additionally, restrictions have been introduced on charging fees for children under 18 for participation in official regional competitions.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, more than 130 sports are developing. There are 133 accredited sports federations and over 130 state and municipal sports institutions operating for athletes. Special attention is given to the development of children's and youth sports. The Nizhny Novgorod region has opened 68 sports schools and 21 Olympic reserve schools, where more than 49,000 young athletes train. Furthermore, school sports leagues for various sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, hockey, athletics, floorball, chess, table tennis, and others operate for children. The Nizhny Novgorod region has 777 school sports clubs that engage students in regular sports activities.

      Student sports are also actively developing. There are 54 student sports clubs in vocational education institutions, uniting over 12,000 students. An annual "Universiade" is held in universities, with about 2,000 Nizhny Novgorod students participating. The regional Ministry of Sports notes that the material and technical base is of great importance for the development of sports. Currently, there are over 7,700 sports facilities in the region, including urban and recreational infrastructure. Additionally, 42 fitness centers operate even in the most remote and sparsely populated districts. The number of sports facilities will continue to grow, as the ministry is working with investors to achieve this.

      "All of this is aimed at strengthening the vertical of training professional athletes, developing amateur sports, and creating conditions in which sports become a norm of life for Nizhny Novgorod residents from a very young age and throughout their subsequent years," the ministry reported.

      Earlier, the website pravda-nn.ru reported that the Ministry of Construction issued a permit for the construction of a sports club in Sormovo.
