Nizhny Novgorod residents were given advice on combating atopic dermatitis in children.
July 8, 2026 18:45 Society Atopic dermatitis in children is often mistakenly taken for food allergies. This leads to parents and children themselves adhering to strict diets that do not improve skin condition and sometimes even cause a deficiency of important nutrients. This was reported by allergist-immunologist Anastasia Dobrenkaya from the Research Clinical Institute of Childhood, as conveyed by 360.ru. Atopic dermatitis is associated with genetic features that disrupt the skin's protective barrier. This leads to moisture loss, dryness, itching, and the risk of bacterial penetration, which can cause inflammation. It is impossible to completely get rid of this disease, but proper therapy and constant care can significantly improve skin condition and reduce symptoms. A key element of treatment is emollients—specialized moisturizing creams and balms that should be used not only during flare-ups but also on a regular basis, 2-3 times a day. It is important to apply the cream immediately after bathing when the skin is still damp to retain moisture inside. The water for bathing should be warm but not hot. It is recommended to abandon regular soap and sponges in favor of gentle cleansing products for dry skin prescribed by a doctor after consultation. The microclimate in the home also plays an important role. The air temperature in the child's room should not exceed 22 degrees, and the humidity level should be at least 50%. Cotton clothing is preferable to wool and synthetic fabrics, which can exacerbate skin irritation. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
