Surveillance cameras were installed at four cemeteries in Nizhny Novgorod.
On July 7, 2026, at 14:46, Society: New surveillance cameras have been installed at the Novo-Sormovsky, Novo-Striginsky, Striginsky cemeteries, and the Koposovo-Vysokovo cemetery. This was reported by the mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev, on his Max channel. According to him, the system allows the commandants to receive real-time color images of what is happening on the cemetery grounds. The cameras will serve as an additional measure to maintain order in the vast areas. Furthermore, recordings will be used in cooperation with law enforcement agencies to track down vandals.
"Unfortunately, there are such people at cemeteries, so I will not publish the location and number of cameras," noted Yuri Shalabaev.
The city head reminded that in April, at one of the cemeteries, young people set fire to garbage containers, after which the fire spread to the grass and burials. The mayor expressed hope that maintaining order will primarily depend on the consciousness of citizens, regardless of the presence of surveillance cameras. Earlier, we reported that nearly 10 million rubles were allocated for the installation of surveillance cameras at Nizhny Novgorod cemeteries. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
