Scammers stole money from a woman in Nizhny Novgorod by using her teenage son.

On July 5, 2026, at 11:55 AM, incidents occurred where criminals stole nearly 200,000 rubles from a 51-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod's bank accounts by deceiving her 13-year-old son. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.

According to preliminary data, her teenage son was communicating in a messenger with a stranger who offered to help with the purchase of a computer game on a gaming internet platform. The criminals convinced the teenager to provide the details of three bank cards belonging to his mother. After gaining access to the account details, the fraudsters withdrew 192,000 rubles from the woman's accounts.

A criminal case has been initiated for the theft under the article "fraud."

The police urge parents to be more attentive to their children's safety on the internet. It is important to regularly discuss internet behavior rules with children, explaining that they should not share bank card details, SMS codes, or other personal information with strangers. It is also recommended to restrict minors' access to mobile banking applications and to keep bank cards in places inaccessible to children. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
