Immediately, 25 residents of Nizhny Novgorod were found guilty of insurance fraud.

      On July 3, 2026, at 18:15, incidents occurred in the Kanavinsky District Court, which issued a verdict in a criminal case concerning fraud in the field of auto insurance. The case involved 41 individuals. This was reported by the press service of the regional court.

      From March 2020 to November 2022, the accused staged traffic accidents. They deliberately collided vehicles with pre-purchased expensive cars, documented the damages with photos, and contacted the traffic police with false information about the circumstances of the accidents. After obtaining the necessary documents, the participants in the scheme submitted them to insurance companies under compulsory insurance contracts and demanded payouts without disclosing that the accidents were fictitious.

      According to the regional investigative committee, they staged a total of 45 traffic accidents. The total damage to insurance companies exceeded 11 million rubles.

      During the court proceedings, the defendants reimbursed a large part of this amount.

      By the court's verdict, 25 individuals were found guilty under articles related to fraud in the field of insurance, including that committed by a group of individuals and an organized group, as well as attempted fraud and large-scale fraud.

      Two convicted individuals received actual sentences of 3 years and 6 months and 4 years in a general regime colony. Five were sentenced to conditional imprisonment for periods ranging from 1 year and 8 months to 2 years, with probation periods from 6 months to 2 years and 6 months.

      Another 11 individuals were fined amounts ranging from 50,000 to 80,000 rubles, while the others were assigned mandatory work for periods of 200 to 260 hours.

      Additionally, 11 defendants were released from criminal liability with the imposition of a judicial fine, and in relation to another five, the case was terminated due to reconciliation with the victims.

      The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
