The number of rapes has increased in the Nizhny Novgorod region over the past five months.
In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 34 cases of rape were registered in the first five months of 2026. During the same period last year, law enforcement agencies recorded 33 such crimes.
The statistics were published by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region. Thus, the number of registered rapes increased by one case.
At the same time, overall crime in the region decreased. From January to May, the police identified 14,483 crimes — 18.4% less than in the same period of 2025.
The number of crimes against individuals also decreased. In five months, 1,539 were registered compared to 1,647 the previous year, a decrease of 6.6%.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs statistics reflect the number of officially registered crimes for the specified period.
