July 2, 2026 11:49 Society The main goal of savings among Nizhny Novgorod residents remains the formation of a financial safety cushion. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the SuperJob service. According to the study, 48% of Nizhny Novgorod residents adhere to a savings strategy, while 20% prefer to spend money more actively. The most common goal for savings has become the financial safety cushion — 36% of respondents mentioned its creation. One in five city residents saves money for purchasing real estate, and the same number saves for vacations. The least common goal is saving for starting a business — this was mentioned by 6% of survey participants. At the same time, 9% of respondents reported that they save without a specific goal. Another 10% of respondents save for education, purchasing expensive goods, and medical services. One-third of study participants — 33% — direct 10 to 25% of their income to savings. Another 10% save from 26 to 33%. Less than 10% of income is saved by 34% of city residents. Men are more focused than women on investment goals and savings for their children's future. Women, in turn, more often report saving for leisure and their own education. Young people under 35 are more willing to save for purchasing real estate (26%), traveling (25%), cars (17%), paying for medical services (14%), large purchases (15%), and education (15%). At the same time, it is in this age group that a rise in expenses this year is more frequently noted — 18% of respondents reported this. Respondents aged 35 to 45 are more likely than others to save for their children's future — 19%. Among residents over 45, there is a greater interest in pension savings — this goal was mentioned by 17%. Nizhny Novgorod residents with higher education are more likely than those with secondary vocational education to strive to create a financial cushion, save for real estate, repairs, and life after retirement. College graduates, in turn, are about twice as likely to save money for purchasing a car. The study also showed that the higher the respondents' income, the larger the share of earnings they direct to savings, and the more often they mention real estate, leisure, and the formation of passive income among their goals. Earlier, we reported that half of the youth in the Volga Federal District plan to save up to 10 million rubles by retirement. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
