20 criminal cases of poaching have been initiated in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
On July 2, 2026, at 12:07, Incidents During the operational and preventive operation "Spawning," which took place in the Nizhny Novgorod region from April to June, law enforcement officers suppressed 60 cases of poaching, initiated 20 criminal cases, and seized 240 prohibited fishing tools. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region. The activities were conducted by police officers with the participation of representatives from the National Guard, the Ministry of Ecology, and Fish Protection. A total of more than two thousand raids were conducted during the operation. Twenty criminal cases were initiated under Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal extraction (catch) of aquatic biological resources"). In another 40 cases, ichthyological examinations were appointed, based on the results of which procedural decisions will be made. In addition to criminal cases, police officers drew up protocols, including 124 for violations of hunting and fishing rules (Article 8.37 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation) and 61 for engaging in entrepreneurial activities without a special permit (Article 14.1 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation). During the operation, 240 units of prohibited fishing tools and 19 self-propelled vessels were seized from illegal circulation. In particular, one of the episodes was recorded on June 12 in the prohibited zone of the Nizhny Novgorod Hydroelectric Power Station. A resident of Kineshma in the Ivanovo region was fishing using a wetsuit and an underwater hunting gun. An investigation is currently underway, and the fishing tool has been sent for examination.
