The factory history museum in Vyksa is becoming the museum of the city's history.

The museum of the Vyksa plant of the United Metallurgical Company (OMK), located in the estate complex of the Batashovs-Shepelevs in Vyksa, Nizhny Novgorod region, was opened in 1992. The company restored the estate complex from 2011 to 2014, enriching the museum's collections with findings made during the work. For many years, the permanent exhibition of the museum was dedicated to the history of the plant's development. During this time, thanks to the research activities of the museum staff and the caring residents of Vyksa, the museum has accumulated a large array of materials telling the story of the city's development.

At the initiative of the charitable foundation "OMK-Participation" and with the support of OMK, the plant museum is being transformed into a full-fledged museum of Vyksa over the course of three years. Its updated exhibitions will allow for a deeper exploration of the multifaceted image of the city: residents will be able to learn more about their homeland, while tourists will be introduced to the role of Vyksa in the development of the country's industry and culture. The re-exposition of the museum began on the first floor. Here, during the "Vyksa Festival 2026," an exhibition titled "Vyksa - the city that drives the country forward" was opened in completely renovated halls. The exhibition is conceived as a prologue to the main narrative about the city, which will be unfolded on the second and third floors of the museum in 2028 with the active participation of local historians and residents. The project consultants are art historian, architectural historian, and museum expert Elizaveta Likhacheva and creative director Yuri Berezovik. The curator of the re-exposition of the first floor is architect and heritage specialist Ulyana Ganjurova, while the architectural part was overseen by architect and head of [MISH] studio Misha Maslov.

"The updated museum, like the entire estate complex of the Batashovs-Shepelevs, remains part of the OMK plant – this is unchanging. Only the concept of the exhibition is changing – now the museum will focus not only on metallurgical heritage but also reveal other equally interesting spheres of our city's history. For example, it will tell about the theater, the traditions of the Vyksans, and significant events for the city. Free entry to the updated exhibition is a kind of new opening of the museum that will make it a center of attraction," noted Alexander Barykov, managing director of the OMK plant in Vyksa.

"OMK continues to develop one of the main cultural venues in Vyksa. Unique exhibitions dedicated to architecture, history, engineering, contemporary art, lectures, excursions, and creative evenings for children and adults are held in the previously restored OMK estate complex. I am confident that in the updated museum, the image of Vyksa will be formed from the brightest facets – from history, traditions, and everyday life to the creative projects of the residents," said Vladimir Kochetkov, head of the local government of Vyksa.

OMK is also implementing another large-scale museum project in the city: by 2030, the company will build a large museum complex of world level dedicated to the role of metal in the development of civilization – the Museum of Metal. It will be located in the "Shukhov Park" area in the city center, in close proximity to the recently restored and relocated Shukhov water tower built in 1934.
