Nizhny Novgorod police detained suspects in two railway robberies.

      On June 26, 2026, at 13:00, incidents occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod region where transport police uncovered two robberies committed at railway transport facilities.

      According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Volga Federal District, the first incident occurred at the Chaadaevo stop platform. A report was received at the duty station about an attack on an 82-year-old woman.

      According to the police, an unknown man approached the pensioner and asked for a cigarette. After she refused, he snatched her backpack and quickly fled.

      Inside were documents, money, and a mobile phone. The damage amounted to about 37 thousand rubles.

      Criminal investigation officers identified and detained the suspect. He turned out to be a 38-year-old local resident with a prior conviction. A criminal case has been initiated under the robbery article. The maximum penalty for this is up to four years of imprisonment.

      A few days later, a similar incident occurred at the Aleshino station. A 42-year-old man was the victim.

      According to law enforcement, after exiting the electric train, a man and a woman—a couple aged 37 and 39—approached him and also asked for a cigarette.

      After he refused, a conflict arose between them, which ended in an attack. The victim was beaten and his belongings were taken, including his passport and phone.

      The suspects were quickly identified and detained. A criminal case has been initiated for robbery committed by a group of individuals. The maximum penalty is up to seven years of imprisonment.
