      The overdue wage debt in the Nizhny Novgorod region reached 287.3 million rubles by the end of May 2026. The region has become one of the largest debtors to employees in the Volga Federal District, according to Rosstat data.

      Compared to the previous month, the total amount of unpaid wages in the Nizhny Novgorod region decreased by 11.5%. Despite the decline, the volume of debt remains one of the most significant among the regions of the Volga Federal District.

      Rosstat clarified that the entire debt arose due to organizations lacking their own funds. Debts related to the untimely receipt of funds from budgets of various levels are not indicated in the presented data.

      Wages that the employer has not paid to employees by the established deadline are considered overdue. The statistics reflect the debts of organizations under observation by Rosstat, so the indicator may not cover all employers in the region.

      Employees who are delayed in receiving their wages can contact the state labor inspection, the prosecutor's office, or the court. In addition to the repayment of the principal debt, the employee is entitled to monetary compensation for each day of delay.
