The Duma of Nizhny Novgorod redistributed the budget and awarded honorary titles.
June 24, 2026 17:10 Politics The City Duma of Nizhny Novgorod adopted amendments to the 2026 budget and supported decisions to confer honorary titles at its meeting on June 24. The changes to the budget are related to the receipt of inter-budget transfers. Revenues and expenditures have increased by almost 8.2 billion rubles. Taking into account the amendments, the revenue part will amount to 87.4 billion rubles, expenditures will be 90.4 billion rubles, and the deficit will be 3.048 billion rubles. Additional funds will be directed towards extending the metro, relocating emergency housing, and implementing concession agreements for the construction of schools in the residential complex "Nova Kuznechikha," the village of Ankudinovka, the settlement of Dubenki, microdistrict No. 3 of Kstovo, the village of Bolshaya Yelnya, as well as on Gagarin Avenue and the streets of Kosmicheskaya and Ukrainskaya. Funding is also provided for the repair of courtyards, the construction of an apartment building on 40 Years of Victory Street, preparing a site for a medical outpatient clinic in the village of Kultura in the Kstovo district, creating conditions for the education of children with disabilities, and bringing Olympic reserve schools in line with federal standards.
"Working with the budget is a balance between large-scale development of the city and addressing the daily problems of residents," emphasized the chairman of the city duma, Evgeny Chintsov.
According to him, in the adopted amendments, the deputies tried to take into account both large projects and more targeted, but no less important issues: the repair of courtyards, creating conditions for special children, equipping our sports schools with equipment.
"It is important for us that each of these areas receives the necessary funding, as this affects comfort in Nizhny Novgorod," he said.
In addition, the deputies approved the conferral of the title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Nizhny Novgorod" to Vadim Sorokin, president of the management company "GAZ Group." Another 45 residents of Nizhny Novgorod received honorary titles of distinguished workers in nine socially significant professions—from firefighters and medics to cultural, housing and utilities, and sports workers. Awards are granted for at least ten years of service and professional merits, and in certain cases for demonstrated courage and bravery. The title "Honorary Veteran of the City of Nizhny Novgorod" was awarded to ten residents. Among them are veterans of combat operations, the Armed Forces, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a liquidator of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster and the earthquake in Armenia, a resident of besieged Leningrad, and active participants in the veterans' movement.
"Today we made an important decision to confer the title 'Honorary Veteran of the City of Nizhny Novgorod' to ten residents of Nizhny Novgorod. The biographies of these people are a living history of our city, and their work is an example for the younger generation," noted Evgeny Chintsov.
A total of 35 questions were on the agenda, most of which the deputies adopted without hearing reports, as they had been previously reviewed in committees.
