The Automobile Plant Thermal Power Station continues systematic work on updating key equipment.

The equipment replacement is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted and quality energy supply to consumers and is being carried out as part of a strategic program to enhance the reliability of the energy enterprise. The energy unit, weighing 96 tons and standing 6 meters tall, was delivered to Nizhny Novgorod on two specialized trailers. The new modern transformer is 10 tons lighter than its predecessor, simplifying the installation process and reducing loads on the building structures. The new device, with a capacity of 63 thousand kVA, will operate in a "generator-transformer" configuration. Its main technical task is to increase the alternating current voltage for subsequent transmission of electrical energy over long distances with minimal losses, which directly affects the overall energy efficiency of the energy system. The equipment replacement is scheduled for the period of summer load minima. The new device will replace the transformer that is being decommissioned. "Technologies do not stand still, and modern transformers technically surpass their predecessors due to the use of materials with improved properties and new design solutions," notes acting General Director of the Avtozavodskaya CHPP Vladimir Kulagin. "The equipment upgrade is aimed at increasing the reliability of electricity supply to consumers and enhancing the safety of the servicing personnel. Therefore, the planned replacement of such units is a matter of accident-free operation of the entire energy system." The arrival of the new transformer is part of a systematic effort for the continuous modernization of the enterprise. The current installation is one of the key activities in the production plan for this year and the long-term development strategy of the enterprise. A total of more than fifty activities are planned under the reliability enhancement program for the Avtozavodskaya CHPP. They include the reconstruction of main and auxiliary equipment, modernization of relay protection and automation systems, increased fire safety, and more. It should be noted that in 2026, the Avtozavodskaya CHPP celebrates its 95th anniversary. It is one of the first thermal power plants in the country.
