      Nizhny Novgorod region ranks 14th among the regions of Russia in terms of population income. Such are the results of the rating compiled by analysts from RIA Novosti. The number of Nizhny Novgorod residents living below the poverty line in 2025 was 5.2%. Compared to the previous year, their number decreased by 0.4%. The ratio of median incomes to the cost of a fixed set of goods and services in the Nizhny Novgorod region last year was 2.26, which is higher than the national average (2.19). The leaders in the income rating were the Nenets, Yamalo-Nenets, and Chukotka autonomous regions. The outsiders included the Republics of Ingushetia, Karachay-Cherkessia, and Tuva. Analysts note that the difference in the level of median per capita incomes between "rich" and "poor" regions is almost six times. The same situation applies to the level of the population with incomes below the regional subsistence minimum. According to the results of 2025, a new minimum poverty level was recorded in Russia. According to Rosstat, the share of Russians living below the poverty line was 6.7%, which is 0.4% less than in 2024. The highest figure in recent decades was observed in 2000, when the poverty level reached 29%.
