      June 20, 2026 09:10 Society On June 18, the famous Nizhny Novgorod pediatric surgeon Viktor Nikolaychuk passed away, reported the Telegram channel "Bokal presseka." He dedicated more than half a century to medicine. Nikolaychuk began his professional career at the Children's City Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Nizhny Novgorod, where he worked since 1974. For over 40 years, he specialized in pediatric surgery. In 1982, Viktor Nikolaychuk was the first in the USSR to use solcoseryl in the complex therapy of necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns. This approach significantly reduced the number of complications and mortality rates. A year later, he was the first in the Nizhny Novgorod region to master and implement diagnostic and therapeutic laparoscopy in children. Among other areas of his work were gentle treatment methods for acute hematogenous osteomyelitis of the bones and bacterial destruction of the lungs in children. Viktor Nikolaychuk also developed a new method of intestinal suturing during the removal of Meckel's diverticulum. For his contribution to the development of medicine, the surgeon was awarded several professional awards. In 2011, he received the "Silver Crane" award in the "Medical Professional" nomination, and in 2013, he took first place in the "Pediatric Surgeon" nomination of the Nizhny Novgorod People's Medical Award.
