Fishing restrictions have been lifted in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      June 17, 2026 08:00 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the spawning period has ended, which means that the previously imposed restrictions for amateur fishermen have been lifted. Now fishing can be done by all permitted methods, the regional Ministry of Natural Resources reported. The spawning ban had been in effect in the region since April 1. According to the head of the relevant ministry, Roman Vorobyov, this measure was necessary to preserve aquatic biological resources and create conditions for the natural reproduction of fish.

      "Since June 16, the restrictions have been lifted, and a full fishing season opens for thousands of amateur fishermen in the region. Thanks to adherence to fishing rules during the spawning period, we managed to preserve the natural cycle of fish stock reproduction," the minister noted.

      During the spawning period, control over fishing in the region was intensified. Joint raids by fishery protection officers, police, and the Ministry of Natural Resources allowed for the detection and prevention of violations, as well as the cleaning of fishery water bodies from prohibited fishing gear. Additionally, starting June 16, restrictions on the movement of small vessels in spawning areas have been lifted in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Fishermen can use gear in accordance with the current Fishing Rules for the Volga-Caspian fishery basin.
