      On June 16, 2026, at 14:22, Incidents In Nizhny Novgorod, a decision was made in the case of Andrei Petrov, who was accused of cruel treatment of several animals. The Soviet District Court found the animal abuser to be insane and released him from criminal liability, reports "KP-Nizhny Novgorod."

      Recall that Petrov's neighbors had repeatedly complained about the unpleasant smell coming from the man's apartment and his strange behavior. In the spring of 2025, police discovered emaciated animals in his home, as well as the remains of at least ten dogs and cats.

      Later, investigators found remains in the apartment of the accused's mother. Galina Petrova worked as a professor in the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure at the Law Faculty of NNGU. The man's father was also associated with the university and headed the Department of Constitutional and Municipal Law until his dismissal. For some time, Andrei Petrov himself also worked at the university.

      The animal abuser was also placed in a clinic for psychiatric examination.

      After a year of gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, the court reviewed the case of animal cruelty. As a result of the hearing, the man was released from criminal liability due to insanity and was ordered to undergo compulsory treatment.

      The physical evidence in the case, including several knives, a jar with animal body parts, and a large number of capsules with various drugs, will be destroyed.

      After the announcement of the decision, Galina Petrova covered her face with her hands and thanked God. The woman may attempt to appeal the court's decision to secure her son's release from compulsory treatment.
