Fell in the greenhouse: a piece of glass got stuck in the neck of a woman from Nizhny Novgorod.

      On June 16, 2026, at 10:47, Incidents: Doctors at the Semashko Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital removed a shard of glass from the neck of a local resident who had been carrying it for three days. This was reported by healthcare specialist Alexey Nikонов. The woman stumbled and fell in a greenhouse, hitting her head on the glass. The wound appeared minor: the bleeding was quickly stopped with hydrogen peroxide. However, for three days, there was significant pain in her neck. Eventually, the patient was taken to the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital by ambulance. During a multi-slice computed tomography scan, it was found that the shard of glass had passed through the soft tissues of the neck and was lodged close to critically important structures of the spinal cord. The operation was performed by neurosurgeons and traumatologists at the hospital. The doctors carefully removed the foreign body, performed a partial resection of the arches of the second cervical vertebra, and plastic surgery on the dura mater.
