Honorary citizen of Dzerzhinsk Nikolai Rudyh passed away at the age of 100.
On June 14, 2026, at 13:17, the society reported that a participant of the Great Patriotic War, Nikolai Kuzmich Rudyh, passed away in Dzerzhinsk, as stated by Mayor Mikhail Klinkov on his Telegram channel. The veteran, who fought against Japan, was 100 years old.
Nikolai Rudyh was born in Transbaikalia. He went to the front in 1943 shortly after turning 17.
He served as a scout and artillery spotter in the anti-tank artillery regiment of the Transbaikal Front. During the war, he participated in the defeat of Japanese invaders. For his combat achievements, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II class, the Medal "For Victory over Japan," and several commemorative awards.
The veteran celebrated the news of Victory on a special day—May 9, 1945, when he turned 19 years old.
After the war, Nikolai Kuzmich worked for many decades in civilian life. According to the head of the chemical city, Rudyh continued to work until the age of 83.
"Having gone through the crucible of war, he retained an amazing love for life, kindness, and the ability to see beauty in simple things. Until his last days, we saw him as a bright, wise person," noted Klinkov.
In 2025, the veteran was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of the City of Dzerzhinsk." On Victory Day, when the 81st anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War was celebrated, Nikolai Rudyh was congratulated on his centenary.
The head of Dzerzhinsk expressed condolences to the veteran's family and friends, emphasizing that his death was a loss for the entire city.
