The drawing competition "The City that Unites" has started in Nizhny Novgorod - the works of the winners will be displayed on the streets of the city.
The drawing competition "The City that Unites," in which young residents of Nizhny Novgorod aged 8 to 16 can participate, has started in Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported by the city’s Department of Culture, noting that the works of the winners will be displayed on the streets of the city. The director of the department, Svetlana Gulyaeva, emphasized that the project is timed to celebrate the upcoming 805th anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod. "From the experience of our other competitions, we know that young residents of Nizhny Novgorod love their city and love to draw it. The seven nominations provide opportunities for creative expression and for reflecting their knowledge of cultural heritage and the present day of their native land," said Svetlana Gulyaeva. The competition is held among children in three age categories: from 8 to 10 years old (inclusive); from 11 to 13 years old (inclusive); and from 14 to 16 years old (inclusive). Winners will be determined in seven nominations:
- "The City at the Confluence of Rivers" – participants need to present drawings reflecting the image of Nizhny Novgorod as a city born at the confluence of the Volga and Oka rivers. Kids can depict the Arrow, rivers, bridges, embankments, river panoramas, ships, sunsets over the river;
- "805 Years to Our Beloved City" – works dedicated to the anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod. One can depict a festive city, the atmosphere of the City Day of Nizhny Novgorod as a common holiday for residents and guests – bright festive venues, decorated streets, concerts, master classes, festivals, fireworks, and symbols of the city's anniversary;
- "My District – Part of Greater Nizhny" – works dedicated to the districts of the city and their features, where one can draw a favorite yard, park, street, school, House of Culture, factory, monument, or local landmark.
- "Nizhny Novgorod – City of Labor Valor" – drawings dedicated to the labor feat of Nizhny Novgorod residents, the contribution of the city's inhabitants to Victory during the Great Patriotic War. Participants can depict the labor feat of Nizhny Novgorod residents, workers and engineers at factories and enterprises, labor dynasties, representatives of various professions, builders, doctors, teachers, scientists, transport and utility workers, as well as symbols of labor glory, industrial facilities, bridges, embankments, the Volga and Oka rivers, modern Nizhny Novgorod, and the continuity of generations creating the future of the city.
- "Symbols of Nizhny" – drawings featuring recognizable symbols of the city, such as the Kremlin, Chkalov Stairs, the Arrow, Nizhny Novgorod Fair, cable car, monuments, bridges, coat of arms, rivers, and more.
- "Nizhny – Capital of Sunsets" – works dedicated to the beauty of Nizhny Novgorod in the evening, where one can depict the sunset over the Volga and Oka rivers, the Arrow, the Lower Volga and Upper Volga embankments, Chkalov Stairs, Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, city streets, and silhouettes of buildings in the rays of the setting sun.
- "Nizhny in Names" – works dedicated to the people who have created, defended, and developed their beloved city over the centuries. One can draw historical figures associated with Nizhny Novgorod, including Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky – as symbols of national unity, Valery Chkalov – as a symbol of courage and heroism, Maxim Gorky – as a symbol of literary heritage, Ivan Kulibin – as a symbol of ingenuity, Nikolai Dobrolyubov – as a symbol of enlightenment and public thought, and other outstanding individuals whose achievements have become part of the city's history.
As specialists noted, the nominations of the competition are valid for all age categories. The number of nominations to which one participant can submit works is not limited. However, only one work can be submitted in one nomination. Additionally, one work cannot be submitted simultaneously in several nominations.
The competition will take place in two stages: district – from June 8 to July 3, 2026; city – from July 7 to July 17, 2026. To participate in the district stage, it is necessary to send the competition work and a completed application form by 16:00 on June 29, 2026 (inclusive) to the following email addresses:
